Diffuse interstellar bands
 

ABSTRACT

Diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) are interstellar absorption features that widely exist in the optical and near-infrared wavelength range, for which the origin might be gaseous molecules. However the origin go the DIB carrier is still unknown leading to the longest mystery in stellar spectroscopy. DIBs play an important role in the lifecycle of the interstellar medium and can also be used to trace the interstellar environment and the Galactic structure. I will show here how large spectroscopic surveys such as GIBS, Gaia-ESO can give us more insights on the DIBs and its relation to the interstellar dust. I will present also our automatic pipeline for detecting and measuring DIBS within the Gaia RVS spectra for the upcoming Gaia DR3 release where for the first time the largest catalog of DIBs will be released.
