Seminar by Giulia Perotti, from the Niels Bohr Institute, on the topic of planet-forming environments.
Title: A sharper view: recent insights on planet-forming disks from JWST
Abstract: Almost five years since its launch, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has surveyed hundreds of planet-forming disks with unprecedented sensitivity and spectral resolution, providing new insights into their physical and chemical structures. This seminar will highlight recent JWST discoveries that reshape our understanding of warm molecular gas and ices in the innermost regions of disks, where rocky planets are assembling. Key findings include a diverse and rich chemistry in the warm gas of disks around very-low-mass stars and T Tauri stars, as well as evidence for volatile entrapment in disk ices (e.g., CO in CO₂ ice), which can shift iceline locations and alter elemental abundances (e.g., C/O). These results significantly advance the community's efforts to connect exoplanets' atmospheric compositions with their formation histories.
