Travel to Lund

Copenhagen airport (CPH) - a major air hub of Northern Europe - is just some 30 minutes by direct train from Lund to inside its international terminal building.  Another local airport is Malmö-Sturup (MMX), half an hour by airport bus which stops a short walking distance from the institute.  High-speed trains connect Lund to, e.g., Stockholm in some 4 hours.

Lund Observatory main building in a winter view.  The statue to the left is of Tycho Brahe (who was born and raised not far from Lund; his historic observatory on the nearby island of Ven is well worth a visit); the Lundmark lecture hall is inside the rhombic front extension; the visitor guest house is at far right.

A 15-minute walking route from the Lund railway station.  Car parking is behind the astronomy building, with entrance from Tornavägen.

The old water tower, connected to the new institute building, is an architectural landmark seen from far away.  The panoramic view from its top reveals the Øresund bridge between Sweden and Denmark, across which Copenhagen airport is just half an hour away.

Previous Lund Observatories: Astronomy has been pursued at Lund University since the 17th century.  Until the year 2001, the main part of the institute was located in a park some 2 km south of the present site.  To that location it had moved in 1867, having been in the Kungshuset building in central Lund before that.
